I have had excellent service from North Star and especially Doug. They fixed our air conditioner last summer and with the issue, it made sense to get their Gold Star membership. With that, I received a winter and summer cleaning service. During the service this winter there was an issue that caused our Ecobee thermostat to blow out. Sometimes stuff just happens and how people handle it shows their character. Doug was fantastic, he did everything he could to fix it and make it right. In the end, I had to exchange it with the manufacturer. When it came in he made it his priority to reinstall it since there were parts to install on the furnace. He did a great job!

Once again North Star delivers. I’ve been working with these guys for 3 years and every time its a great experience. Today Ishmael called to let me know he was on his way and did a great job quickly assessing the issue with my furnace. He did some additional maintenance and cleaned up from a previous installer. Stellar service within 4 hours. It’s so nice to have a company you can count on these days.

Google ReviewHow Can You Tell If Your Furnace Is In Need of Repair?
If your furnace is old, it may start producing some odd sounds. Most of the time those noises are an indication you may need to replace your furnace. You should be wary when you hear squealing, rattling, popping or banging noises. At times it may be your blower turning on and off. A malfunctioning furnace is expensive to keep in operation and also poses significant risks. Our Utah heating and air conditioning repair team will help you identify a more efficient furnace to take care of your home needs. You can count on North Star Heating & Air Conditioning 24 hours every day.
Some common signs that your furnace is in need of a heating and air conditioning installation are:
1. Rising gas and electricity bills
Issues with your furnace will reduce its efficiency, meaning that it will have to utilize more power to continue performing at the same level.
2. Does your furnace take long to kick on?
There are a number of reasons that may cause your furnace to malfunction. It may result in the unequal distribution of air in your house or even cause the furnace to stop working. In such cases, our furnace repair team is always available to restore your warm nights.
3. Yellow burner flame
The burner flame should always be blue. When the flame turns yellow or you notice it flickering, know that something is definitely wrong with your furnace.
4. Wear and Tear
An old furnace may develop cracks inside the heat exchanger. This may lead to undetected carbon monoxide leaks in your house. This gas is dangerous and may cause headaches, nausea, burning sensations in the eyes or nose, flu-like symptoms and disorientation. Open the windows to let in fresh air when you notice anyone showing those signs.
Other ways to spot carbon monoxide leaks are :
- Moisture on windows, walls and other cold surfaces.
- Rust on flue pipes and the visible parts of the vents.
- Little amounts of water leaking from the base of the chimney.
- Presence of soot around the furnace.
5. Strange noises coming from the furnace
If it doesn’t sound right, then it is best to call our emergency furnace repair team and have them check it out.

Heating and Furnace Installation Guidelines
A complete HVAC system is designed to use heating elements for the winter and cooling elements for the summer. In residential applications, those components are built in tandem but work separately. For example, they might share the same ductwork and same blower motor, but, the parts that do the cooling and heating are actually different which is why you might have your unit working fine all summer but when winter rolls. Around you’re suddenly out of heat. Because many units have both heating and air conditioning elements within, proper installation and or replacement of such can be beneficial to the overall energy efficiency of your whole system.
There are a few things to consider when choosing a furnace install for your home or business. These are the factors that will ultimately determine what type of furnace will serve you best.
1. Furnace Sizes
The size of the furnace you need depends on the space you want it to cover. North Star Heating & Air Conditioning experts can calculate what size furnace you need to adequately serve you. An undersized furnace will not be able to handle your thermoregulation needs. On the other hand, one that is bigger than required will exceed temperature requirements when regulating thus negating its purpose and also increase your power consumption. The right size will always ensure your comfort whilst saving you on power costs.
2. Furnace Efficiency
There is some heat that can get lost in the vents or chimney while your furnace works to raise the temperature in the house. As such you should consider the efficiency rating of your furnace to ensure that most of the heated air reaches to your house. This will then increase your costs. Efficiency rates range from 60% to 75% for older models and up to 96% for newer versions.
3. Types of Furnaces
There are several types of furnaces you can acquire. They offer different performance and results. They are :
- Two-stage furnace. As the name suggests, it performs its functions in two temperature scenarios which are mild temperature and when it really gets chilly. It only works for high or low.
- Modulating furnace. It is similar to a two-stage furnace but can vary the amount of heated air depending on temperature. The amount of power needed can also vary depending on use.
- Variable speed. Variable speed is used in reference to the motor. Variable-speed furnaces are powered by DC (direct current) voltage motors which are economical.
Places that require constant air circulation can benefit from this feature. Both two-stage furnaces and modulating furnaces have this option.

There are a number of components in your HVAC system that make it possible for it to function, here are some common terms we might discuss with you during our home visit.
1. Thermostat
This is the part of the system you see on the wall inside your house. It is responsible for triggering air circulation to control temperatures. You can manually operate it or set it to automatically keep your home at your ideal temperature when there are spikes or dips.
2. Furnace
The furnace is purposeful for heating air when temperatures are low. It is probably the biggest out of all of the components. The heated air is then distributed through air ducts or pipes to different rooms in your house. Depending on the type, furnaces can be powered by solar energy, electric resistance, combustion and heat pumps.
3. Evaporator coil
Evaporator coils come into play when the thermostat is programmed to lower temperature. For cooling to take place, warm air inside your house is drawn by a fan through a filter and over the evaporator coil which draws moisture from the warm air. The air is then passed through the refrigerant inside where it is cooled and then circulated back into the house.
4. Condensing unit
This unit is filled with refrigerant gas and is found outside your house. It pumps cooled refrigerant into the evaporating coil where it is transformed into a gas when lowering the temperature.
5. Vents
These are normally above the ceiling with downward-facing outlets in the rooms. Their purpose is to distribute heated or cooled air in your home.
